This tool needs JavaScript, because it works in your browser and sends nothing. Turn JavaScript on to use it. How it works is explained below.

How it works

Resolution at the printed width = pixels across ÷ width in inches.

PNG, JPEG (JFIF and Exif) and TIFF headers are read; other formats are not supported.

  • dpi = width in pixels ÷ (printed width ÷ 25.4 mm per inch)

Questions

Is my figure uploaded?

No. The file is read in your browser and never leaves your device.

Why is the stored dpi not enough?

The dpi value saved in a file is only a label. What counts is the number of pixels divided by the printed width.
