Cookie Policy
Last updated:
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. This website uses as few as possible.
Strictly necessary cookies (always on)
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
umj_session | Keeps the website working between pages (for example, the newsletter form and, for editors, the signed-in session). Encrypted; it contains no information about you. | 2 hours |
XSRF-TOKEN | Security: protects forms against cross-site request forgery. | 2 hours |
umj_consent | Remembers whether you accepted or refused analytics cookies. | 180 days |
Analytics cookies (only if you accept)
If you click "Accept analytics", the website loads Google Analytics 4, which sets the cookies _ga and _ga_* (up to 2 years) to count visitors and pages viewed, with IP anonymisation. If you refuse, or make no choice, Google Analytics is not loaded at all. Independently of this, the website keeps cookie-free daily page totals that contain no personal data (see the Privacy Policy).
What we do not use
No advertising cookies, no social-media sharing scripts and no third-party trackers are loaded on this website. The journal does not sell advertising space.
Your choices
The "Accept analytics" and "Reject analytics" buttons are shown with equal weight on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. You can also delete or block cookies in your browser. Refusing cookies never prevents you from reading or downloading any article.
